BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - A former LSU wide receiver is set to start practicing with a SEC rival on Tuesday, as reported by Bruce Feldman. Deion Smith is ready to hit the field with Ole Miss.
Smith initially played for LSU in 2021 but transferred during the coaching transition from Ed Orgeron to Brian Kelly. After spending two years at the JUCO level, he eventually transferred to Ole Miss. However, there were some delays that prevented Smith from practicing immediately.
Despite being overshadowed by other notable transfers to Ole Miss, Smith possesses the talent to make a significant impact in 2024.
During the 2021 season, Smith recorded 11 receptions for 186 yards and two touchdowns, showcasing his skills on the field.
Originally a four-star recruit and the top player in Mississippi, Smith was later ranked as the top JUCO recruit in the country by On3 after transitioning from junior college.
In 2024, Smith will not be the sole former LSU player joining Ole Miss, as former LSU running back Logan Diggs will also be part of the Rebels' offense after leading LSU running backs in rushing yards the previous year.
Ole Miss is banking on a strong transfer class to elevate the program within the SEC, aiming to compensate for some of its shortcomings in high school recruiting.
