ORLANDO, Florida – No. 8 Florida State took advantage of a second-half meltdown by LSU on Sunday night defeating the Tigers, 45-24.
Jordan Travis, the quarterback for Florida State, had an impressive game with 342 passing yards and four touchdowns, in addition to scoring one on the ground. His top receiver of the night was Keon Coleman, a Louisiana native, who caught nine passes for 122 yards, three of which resulted in touchdowns.
Johnny Wilson also contributed to the "Noles" with seven receptions for 104 yards.
Despite facing early pressure from the Seminole defense, Jayden Daniels of the Tigers managed to throw for 347 yards and one touchdown, achieving a 141.8 quarterback rating while completing 59% of his passes. However, Daniels did not perform as well as expected for the Tigers, falling short of his preseason Heisman candidate status.
Although at a neutral site, Camping World Stadium was 80% garnet and gold with many Florida State fans taking the four-hour drive to Orlando.
Florida State's defense came up with two crucial stops on fourth down in the first half, which played a significant role in keeping the Seminoles in the game, trailing by only three points at halftime. LSU had two drives deep into Florida State territory, but both ended without scoring any points.
On the other hand, the Tigers' defense struggled, allowing 483 yards and failing to stop Florida State on third down, with the Seminoles converting 8 out of 13 attempts.
It was a challenging defensive performance for LSU, as they allowed 483 yards and were ineffective in preventing Florida State from extending drives, allowing them to sustain drives 62% of the time.
Following the heavy defeat on Sunday night, the Tigers are likely to drop several positions in the rankings.
Next week, LSU will face Grambling State University at home, hosting an in-state FCS school for the second consecutive season in their home opener.
