SU falls to Jackson State

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana — On Saturday, Sept. 14, Southern University football played against Jackson State at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. Unfortunately, the Jaguars were defeated by Jackson State with a score of 33-15.
Jackson State took the lead first by scoring a 25-yard field goal at 12:35 in the first quarter, making it 3-0. They further extended their lead to 10-0 after J.D. Martin's one-yard rushing touchdown at 3:50 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Tigers secured their second touchdown of the night with Jacobian Morgan connecting with Marvin Landy for a 30-yard touchdown, increasing their lead to 16-0. Ahmad Miller's 30-yard rushing touchdown at 2:49 in the second quarter pushed Jackson State's lead to 23-0.
Southern managed to score before halftime with Joshua Griffin's 29-yard field goal, reducing Jackson State's lead to 23-3. Jackson State then added a 39-yard field goal at 9:21 in the third quarter, making the score 26-3.
The Jaguars responded with a three-yard rushing touchdown by CJ Russell, narrowing Jackson State's lead to 26-9 with 6:10 remaining in the third quarter. Later in the third quarter, at 2:23, the Tigers scored a five-yard rushing touchdown by Irvin Mulligan, bringing Jackson State's lead to 33-9.
Ultimately, Jackson State emerged victorious with a final score of 33-15. Southern's next game will be against the Prairie View A&M Panthers at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21.
