New Orleans Saints' big Week 1 win over Carolina Panthers marred by injury bug

The New Orleans Saints stamped out a bunch of questions and lukewarm hype on Sunday with a season-opening trouncing of the Carolina Panthers. 

But even a 47-10 win over a division rival couldn’t overpower the setbacks from multiple injuries.

The Saints lost tight end Foster Moreau to a head injury during the rout, cutting short his impressive four-catch performance that had produced 43 yards and a touchdown. He's now in concussion protocol, per ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

Starting guard Lucas Patrick also left the game with a toe injury and was eventually downgraded from questionable to out. Line depth was already a serious question mark entering the season, so if Patrick needs to miss time, the Saints might be forced to look for help along the practice squad. 

On the defensive side of the ball, linebacker Willie Gay Jr. left with an injury, as did top cornerback Marshon Lattimore. 

Lattimore and perhaps even Gay might have been able to reenter a closer game if necessary. Lattimore told reporters his hamstring injury was "fine" after the game, per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football.

But that is now a handful big setbacks for the Saints right out of the gates at questionable areas of depth as it is—all before a week of prep ahead of a trip to Dallas for a game against the Cowboys.
