NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana - On Sunday, Tulane University revealed that head football coach Willie Fritz has taken on the role of head football coach at the University of Houston with immediate effect.

In the announcement, Tulane mentioned that a search team has been tasked with identifying Fritz's successor "within the week." Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Slade Nagle has been named the interim head football coach.

After leading the Green Wave through numerous historical triumphs and achieving the largest turnaround season in the NCAA's Football Bowl Subdivision history, Fritz leaves behind a seven-year legacy. Last year, the team went from a 2-10 season to a remarkable 12-2 record, securing a No. 9 ranking in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll.

Fritz will take over from Dana Holgorsen, the former head coach of Houston football, who was dismissed following three consecutive losing seasons.

In an email sent on Sunday, Tulane expressed its dedication to maintaining the positive momentum of its athletics program.
