BATON ROUGE, Louisiana - Although the Grambling State Tigers initially matched Louisiana State touchdown for touchdown in an exciting first quarter, the momentum quickly shifted in favor of LSU for the remainder of the game.
LSU's offense had a smooth drive down the field, culminating in a 26-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels to WR Malik Nabers. Grambling State responded with a scoring drive of their own, resulting in a 13-yard touchdown reception by Junior Waters.
However, LSU regained control of the game swiftly, scoring another quick touchdown after a roughing the passer penalty by GSU. Jayden Daniels connected with Chris Hilton, Jr. for a 47-yard touchdown pass in just three plays and 45 seconds.
Although GSU was able to add a field goal on their next offensive possession, that was all the scoring they were able to muster for the rest of the night.
Daniels and his receiving group were in complete control as he threw a career-high 5 touchdowns with no interceptions. All of Daniels' impressive performance occurred in the first half, with his final touchdown pass coming in the 2nd quarter on a 3-yard catch by Kyren Lacy.
In the second half, Garret Nussmeier took over as QB and guided the LSU Tigers on a 6-play, 54-yard drive that ended with a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Nussmeier. LSU kept up the pressure, scoring four more times: two rushing touchdowns by Kaleb Jackson, one by Noah Cain, and a safety courtesy of LSU's defense.
Next week, the LSU Tigers will be up against an SEC rival. They will be playing the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville, MS. Brian Kelly emphasized the improved intensity and focus of the LSU Tigers in the post-game press conference. He expressed enthusiasm for the offense's execution and highlighted its importance for the upcoming game in Starkville.
The Fighting Tigers have an early kickoff next week, scheduled for Saturday, September 16th at 11:00 AM.
