In Baton Rouge, Louisiana - LSU linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. made a name for himself as a disruptive force for opposing offenses during his freshman year in the 2022-23 season.

LSU coach Brian Kelly announced on Monday that Perkins, an AP preseason All-America pick eligible for the 2025 NFL draft, suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament tear, prematurely concluding what was anticipated to be his final collegiate season.

"Apart from one player, we don't have any others like him in the locker room," Kelly remarked.

Nevertheless, Kelly emphasized that LSU's success in football does not rely on the presence of a single player.

Kelly emphasized that injuries are an expected part of the game and will not cause the team to lose focus or unity.

He expressed sympathy for the injured player, acknowledging his importance while highlighting the collective effort required by the entire team to maintain their defensive standards.

Perkins sustained a knee injury during the fourth quarter of LSU's win over UCLA.

Kelly mentioned that LSU will need to utilize various players to replace Perkins based on different game situations and opponent strengths.

LSU may opt for different defensive formations, including using three linebackers or adjusting the positioning of defensive backs, to adapt to specific challenges during games, according to Kelly.

Perkins had his most impressive season statistically during his rookie year, registering 7 1/2 sacks along with 13 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and an interception.

During the previous season, Perkins assumed a more significant role by playing various linebacker positions, resulting in a slight decrease in some of his standout stats, ending with 5 1/2 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and an interception.

As of this season, he has yet to secure a sack, managed 1 1/2 tackles for loss, and has not caused a turnover in almost four games.

Kelly stated that it is premature for him or his family to announce whether this will be his final game. He believes they are currently focused on managing the surgery and rehabilitation process. When the time comes to decide, he will carefully consider all factors. There is still ample time for him to make that decision.
